It was the same funny feeling that I have gotten every Halloween since I have been at Newman. No, it didn´t have to do sensing the presence of the supposed "ghosts" on campus or anything creepy like that. It was something entirely different. As I walked half-asleep from my room on campus to class at 8 o´clock this morning, I was reminded that today was Halloween by the small pumpkins hidden on the quad as part of a scavenger hunt that students could find and redeem for prizes.

This may sound corny, but my funny feeling was a result of remembering that Halloween is the anniversary of the day that I first took a tour of the Newman University campus five years ago. Every October 31st since then I can´t help but remember that day when I first knew that Newman was going to be the school for me. I remember feeling right at home from the start. Everyone on the Admissions staff was so friendly and welcoming and seemed to really care about me as a person. I was also impressed at how many students, faculty, and staff seemed to know and say hi to my tour guide, who was a current student at the time, as we walked around the campus. This showed me right away that Newman was a place where as a student you could feel at home and surrounded by a close-knit campus community. It was also an added bonus as we walked from building to building that there were faculty and staff handing out candy of course!

So, yes, today is the anniversary of the day I fell in love with what has become my new home. And I have to admit that I can´t help but feel a twinge of sadness knowing that this is my last Halloween on campus. Guess I will just have to make the most of it and eat all of the candy my stomach can handle. J

Clare Ewald

Clare Ewald My name is Clare and I am a fifth-year senior at Newman University. I can’t believe that I have already been here for four whole years! The time has definitely flown by. My favorite memories range from building the biggest snowman on campus with my friends from Nepal one winter to winning the conference tournament with my soccer teammates another year. I have made some amazing friends and can’t wait to make more memories with them in my final year at Newman. Who knows what will happen this year!
