A Spring Break spent in Wichita, KS isn’t as bad as some people might think it sounds. I promise. I just spent my week of vacation from classes right here on campus…and I actually had a lot of fun!

At the beginning of the break was Newman Night at the Wichita Thunder hockey game. Me and four other Newman friends who were staying in town for the week of Spring Break headed out to watch the hockey game, which was full of fighting and penalty minutes. The team sported the Newman logo on their jerseys and there was an auction for the jerseys after the game with the proceeds going to benefit the University. It was definitely a good way to kick off the break.

The rest of the week was filled with going out with friends, working off campus, and watching Newman baseball and softball games. Luckily the weather was nice and it was great just being outside, as long as you didn’t get blown away in the strong Kansas spring winds.

The other highlight of the week for me was watching the NCAA basketball tournament. Being a Kansas kid myself, all I have to say is Rock Chalk Jayhawk….even though we all know that I will always be a Newman Jet at heart!!

In the newest edition of The Vantage, the campus’ student-produced newspaper, there was an article about how one of my biology professors recently won a new 50” flat-screen television. The professor, who has already given so much to this school through many years of teaching and inspiring college students, decided to donate the t.v. to the student body instead of keeping it for himself. It has been placed in a study room in the Dugan Library.

I was not surprised by this professor’s kindness and giving spirit as I had already witnessed his great character not only in the classroom during my Physiology and Pathophysiology classes, but in my interactions with him as he has been my advisor for the past few years. He is a perfect example of one of the many teachers here who will go to great lengths to help you succeed.

Anyways, I am very excited to go and check out this new t.v. too! I am one of those students who likes to watch television while cramming for an exam the next day. It helps to make a miserable task not so bad! This room could very well become my new favorite place on campus.

Clare Ewald

Clare Ewald My name is Clare and I am a fifth-year senior at Newman University. I can’t believe that I have already been here for four whole years! The time has definitely flown by. My favorite memories range from building the biggest snowman on campus with my friends from Nepal one winter to winning the conference tournament with my soccer teammates another year. I have made some amazing friends and can’t wait to make more memories with them in my final year at Newman. Who knows what will happen this year!
